Commercial Vehicle Technicians
The Ford & Slater group is frequently looking to recruit experienced Commercial Vehicle Technicians to work at a number of our dealerships.
Franchised dealership experience (DAF/LDV) is an advantage but training will be provided for suitable candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
The key areas of responsibility include the following:
• Ensure repairs are carried out according to manufacturer’s procedures and in a safe and responsible manner.
• Assist in fault diagnosis.
• Road test vehicle when required.
• Ensure repairs are carried out in accordance with manufacturer standard times.
• Comply with warranty procedures during repairs and with warranty material on completion of a repair.
• Assist with good workshop and dealership housekeeping at all times.
• Work with the parts team to ensure the correct replacement parts are fitted to the vehicles.
• Ensure that the company time recording procedures are complied with and job cards are completed accurately.
• Ensure that service sheets are completed as per manufacturer/customer instructions.
• Ensure that all vehicle defects are reported to your workshop supervisor.
• Attend any technical or development training that is made available.
General Duties:
• Work with the team to ensure a strong top team ethos.
• Support the development of any young trainees and apprentices.
• Ensure that the workshop facilities, equipment and tools are kept clean, tidy and maintained, reflecting the DAF/LDV image of an efficient and modern retail dealership.
• Support the development of character, skills, attitude and superior individual and team performance.
• Ensure that you conduct yourself in a business like and professional manner.

The National Dealer Apprentice Programme

The DAF Trucks National Dealer Apprentice Programme is a Government approved ‘Modern Apprenticeship Scheme’ - a challenging 3 year programme that combines hands-on workshop training with block release for college training and study.
You’ll be employed at a Ford & Slater dealership where you will work alongside qualified technicians, learning from their experience and developing the ability to work both on your own and as part of a team. Alongside other DAF Trucks Apprentices from around the country you will be specially trained on DAF vehicles in all aspects of truck servicing, repair and maintenance.
With full time specialist instructors and dedicated workshop facilities this aspect of the apprenticeship is regarded as the best in the industry. After 3 years, you will leave City of Bristol College with an Advanced Apprenticeship in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair which will include:
• NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair
• Technical Certificate - BTEC National Certificate in Motor Vehicle Engineering.
• Key Skills in communication, Application of Number and Information Technology.
• Recognised Welding Certificate
Attendance at City of Bristol College is usually in 2 week blocks and, whilst there, you will stay in approved accommodation with local families. All of your bus or train fares, accommodation and living expenses will be paid for by your employing DAF dealer who will also provide books and other necessary equipment.
To become a DAF Trucks apprentice you must have a genuine interest in things mechanical and meet an acceptable academic standard – the preference being a minimum of 3 GCSE’s, Grade C or above. The age limit for new entrants is generally 16-19 years but we will consider older applicants.
Where new vacancies exist, suitable applicants will be required to take a standard entry test to assess their aptitude. This will enable us to choose the candidate(s) best suited to a place on the DAF Trucks National Dealer Apprentice Programme.
