Meet the new DAF Driver Training Dream Team

26th April 2022 | Ford & Slater Leicester

Meet Ford & Slater’s newest Driver Trainers: Michelle Bolton King and Duncan Lancaster!

Duncan Lancaster worked at Channel Commercials for 36 years, working his way up from Technician to Group Training Manager. He retired to the Lincolnshire Wolds and as quickly as he retired – he was back at work again, this time for Ford & Slater.

Commenting on why he joined Ford & Slater, Duncan said: “I previously had a conversation with Ian Joyce about helping out at Ford & Slater if it was ever required."

“I would have liked to work alongside Ian but sadly that was never to be. I’m not here to fill his shoes but to walk alongside his footprints.”

Duncan continues: “I’ve truly enjoyed every moment so far. I’m very pleased to be a member of Ford & Slater plus I must say, Michelle has been a great support.”

“I have one role and that role is to ensure the customers are happy – life is good!”

If you know Ford & Slater, you know Michelle Bolton King. Michelle has worked at Ford & Slater for nearly 30 years in various roles, her most recent being PA to the Directors.

Michelle comments: “When Covid hit, my role changed completely. All the customer events we had planned for 2020 just couldn’t go head any longer, so I found myself needing a new challenge.”

Michelle continues: “Tim Strevens [Ford & Slater’s Joint Managing Director] asked if I would like to help with a Used Truck Sales project as we had many vehicles being returned to us at the end of their contract, something completely different for me and the challenge I needed.  We then tragically lost Ian Joyce, a Gentleman, colleague, and friend whom I had worked alongside of at many events over the years. I was already aware that Duncan was joining us - so when Tim asked me if it was something I’d like to do – I jumped at the chance! Not only to be involved with the New Generation DAF from its launch but to carry on with the fantastic work that Ian had been involved with for so many years.”

“I’ve been qualified for four weeks now, and whilst I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it, I will be leaning on every ounce of experience that Duncan has for a long time to come.”
